VISITING THE HALL

Longley Old Hall is the home of Christine and Robin Gallagher. It is open for pre-booked guided tours at Easter, Summer and between Christmas and New Year, and by appointment for private viewing for groups of 12 to 25 visitors in Winter and 50 in Summer.  For evening visits in winter the Hall is lit by candlelight and open fires, and from mid- November it will have Tudor style Christmas decorations. Individual tours or smaller  groups are available by special arrangement.

Directions

Take the A 629 Wakefield road off the Huddersfield ring road; the University is on the right and a large Sainsbury store is on the left. Keep in the right hand lane marked Almondbury and go through the first set of traffic lights. The lane filters to the right at the next set. Follow the filter on to Somerset Road (there is a Lidl shop and then a Catholic church on the left). After 100 yards take the second turning right on to Dog Kennel Bank (the sign may be obscured by ivy), signed to Lowerhouses. Note the drive way on the right to Longley School - this was the "New" hall of the Ramsdens' originally built in about 1580, but now Victorian mainly.

Climb up Dog Kennel Bank through the wood; the road name changes to Hall Cross Road. Follow this to the junction with Lowerhouses Lane. Note Longley Fisheries across the junction. Turn right and after about 20 yards turn right again down a short lane marked "Longley". The gable end of the hall is immediately in front. Follow the signs and park in front of the barn.

By bus take the 358 from Huddersfield bus station to the junction of Wood Lane, Longley Lane and Lowerhouses Lane.
